FAQs
What if I can’t import the vault?
Check the Vault Folder Structure
Ensure the downloaded vault is in a folder format. Obsidian requires vaults to be stored in a folder containing all the relevant files (e.g., .md files and subfolders).
If your download is a .zip file, unzip it first before trying to import it into Obsidian.
Select the Correct Folder
When setting up your vault in Obsidian, make sure you’re selecting the folder containing the vault files—not individual files or subfolders.
Use Obsidian’s ‘Open Folder as Vault’ Option
Open Obsidian and go to the main screen.
Click “Open folder as vault” and navigate to the folder where your vault is stored.
If this doesn’t work, double-check that the files are not hidden or locked by your operating system.
File Permission Issues
Verify that you have the necessary file permissions to access and modify the folder. On some systems, files downloaded from the internet may be marked as “read-only.”
Ensure Obsidian is Up to Date
Check that you’re running the latest version of Obsidian. Older versions may have compatibility issues with newer vault formats.
